| Are CryptoMite passwords saved on the hard disk? |
No. Even if you enable the "automatic password confirmation" no passwords are saved to disk. CryptoMite uses so called 'one-way hashes' for the automatic password confirmation.
| Is the 30-day test version restricted in any way? |
The encryption functions are NOT restricted in any way during the 30-day trial period. And of course you can still decrypt your data after the 30-day period is over. However, some Premium features of CryptoMite are limited during the 30-day trial period.
| Which Windows version is required to execute a self-decrypting Exe-file created with CryptoMite? |
The self-decrypting Exe-files work with all current Windows versions (Windows 95/98/NT and Windows 2000). Self-decrypting Exe-files will not work with Windows 3.x.
| Does CryptoMite contain any hidden "back doors"? |
| I lost my password for an encrypted file - what can I do now? |
CryptoMite uses strong encryption algorithms. It is not possible to decrypt the encrypted files without the correct password. Even BAxBEx cannot reconstruct the data from an encrypted file.
| I have hidden a drive; why it is still visible in Windows Explorer? |
Does CryptoMite distinguish between upper and lower case of passwords? |
Yes, CryptoMite distinguishes between upper and lower case of passwords. It is required that you enter the password used to encrypt and decrypt a file in exactly the same format! If a warning is issued that CAPS LOCK is activated, this indicates the key for automatic upper case writing was pressed. On most standard keyboards, the CAPS LOCK key is located two keys above the 'CTRL' key, directly to the left of the 'A' key.
| Although the option "automatic password confirmation" is selected, I still have to type each password twice. What's going wrong here? |
The automatic password confirmation is only effective for passwords you've already used in the past. For example: If you use the password 'hello' for the first time, you must still confirm the password - even if "automatic password confirmation" is selected. If you then reuse the password 'hello', no confirmation is needed.
